I fired up Toolbox (and YES, you have to use the older version of Toolbox) and sure enough I heard the little servos whirring. I installed everything and immediately restarted the computer.
I followed the instruction above USING THE DIRECT LINKS, going to the Canon page didn’t seem to do it. So, I deleted everything that I had installed, everywhere.
